Our Philosophy
Beauty is rooted in imperfection.
We make our pieces by hand in our Tribeca Atelier from existing textiles; antique, vintage, remnants, samples, end of run
producing small collections of both made to order and one of a kind pieces, introduced once per month.
Each garment is cut from our own patterns, sewn on an industrial sewing machine and finished with hand stitched details.
We source and prepare our textiles with care, every piece chosen for uniqueness, quality, durability, and ease of wear.
Every detail, from start to finish, is informed by the unique qualities of each textile, and our patterns are adjusted to suit, allowing the freedom to play with hemlines, collar size, asymmetrical elements and closures.
During construction, we cut the fabrics with intention— utilizing as much of the textile as possible to minimize waste. Selvedge becomes a design element both decorative and functional, allowing for a natural drape and more relaxed movement.
Silhouette, size and finishing touches — from the design of collars and closures, interior French seaming, to hand sewn button holes— are all part of a conversation with each textile, often very limited in quantity, resulting in a garment that is truly one of a kind, thoughtfully and sustainably made by hand.
All garments are finished with labels that are hand stamped, hand cut, hand written and hand stitched. Our stamp
Is made by a custom stamp maker located in the East Village of NY for over 20 years
Swing tags are made by our neighborhood printer and handwritten with details specific to each garment.
Each garment is made by hand therefor unique and has its own individual characteristics.
The textiles used in the making of each collection may contain flaws consistent with its story and have been carefully chosen, considered and cared for; sourced with quality, durability, and ease of wear in mind.
why did we decide to use vintage, antique and deadstock materials instead of new?
There is an incredible wealth of existing textiles all around us.
Not to take advantage of this is criminal. If we were not able to create the collection in a thoughtful, responsible and
sustainable way by using exclusively existing textiles, it would defeat the/our purpose. Quality is also very important
to us— many of the early textiles we use were made by hand with a level of craft and skill you cannot find anymore.
We work with a simple but impactful mission: to create in as sustainable of a way possible.
